Our commitment

The Garden Kitchen, a University of Arizona Cooperative Extension program, is committed to making our website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We are working to make thegardenkitchen.org usable for all visitors, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, or other assistive technologies.

Accessibility standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with a wide range of disabilities.

Current status

This website partially conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. This means some parts of the site do not yet fully meet the standard. We completed an accessibility audit in September 2026 and are actively fixing the issues it found.

Improvements made so far

  • Improved color contrast for links and navigation menus
  • Added visible focus indicators for keyboard users
  • Added accessible names to social media icons and slider controls
  • Made main menu sections reachable by keyboard
  • Marked Spanish-language content so screen readers pronounce it correctly
  • Fixed layout problems when the page is zoomed or viewed on small screens
  • Enlarged small links and controls so they are easier to tap

Known limitations

We are still working on the following:

  • Older blog posts and recipes: some images are missing text descriptions, and some pages use headings out of order.
  • PDF documents: some older PDFs are not yet fully accessible to screen readers. Accessible versions are available on request.
  • Zoom on mobile devices: pinch-to-zoom is currently limited on some pages. This is being corrected.
  • Dropdown menus: some submenu items are not yet fully keyboard accessible. All pages can also be reached through the main menu links.
  • Recipe and event features: some parts of our recipe and event listings, such as ingredient checklists and sort options, are being updated to work better with assistive technology.
  • Third-party content: embedded content from other services, such as videos and social media feeds, may not be fully accessible.
